FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Extended Education Program Has a New Name: Cal Poly Continuing Education
SAN LUIS OBISPO - Cal Poly's Extended Studies program has a new name: Cal Poly Continuing Education. The name change will officially go into effect on Sept. 3.
The new name signifies a merging of the missions of the
university and its continuing education program, said Paul Zingg, university
provost and vice president for academic affairs. Cal Poly Continuing Education
will focus on developing programs that combine the intellectual resources of Cal
Poly with the educational needs of adults living
in San Luis Obispo, northern Santa Barbara, and southern Monterey counties.
The new name also reflects the organization's goals of integrating the academic strengths of a nationally known university with a solid understanding of the needs of adult learners, Zingg said.
Cal Poly Continuing Education Dean Dennis "Skip" Parks said the new name better reflects what the program does. "It ties together two very important elements of who we are and the educational services we provide: Cal Poly, with its reputation for excellence in learning, and continuing education, a term nationally associated with lifelong learning."
Continuing Education will continue to provide services for conferences and workshops and educational programs, including credit and non-credit courses. In addition, during the upcoming academic year, the organization will be offering a variety of new programs and services that meet the professional training and life enrichment needs of the community at large.
Cal Poly Continuing Education is a nonprofit, self-supporting University unit with the mission of providing lifelong learning opportunities and services to residents of San Luis Obispo County and beyond.
The program offers a variety of short and long courses, seminars and certificate programs, as well as college credit programs. Many of the Cal Poly Continuing Education offerings assist professionals in upgrading their skills, meeting their career goals, obtaining personal enrichment and building individual professional skills. Course listings and certificate program details can be found online at: www.continuing-ed.calpoly.edu.
