Cal Poly To Host 600-Plus California Agriculture Teachers

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- More than 600 high school and community college
agriculture teachers are expected to attend the 83rd California
Agriculture Teachers Association's annual professional conference
Sunday through Thursday at Cal Poly.

Harlan "Butch" Cotter, a teacher, coach and administrator from
Robinson, Ill., will kick off the general assembly at 8:15 a.m. Monday
with a keynote address titled "Agriculture Education . Where Does Our
Sidewalk End?" The opening session will be in Harman Hall in the
Christopher Cohan Center and is open to the public.

The conference will include speakers, workshops, an awards banquet, and
a celebration of 20th century educators. The pioneers and major figures
of the profession will be saluted at a "Hall of Fame" luncheon on
Wednesday.

The annual awards banquet, to be held in Avila Beach, is hosted by
teachers from the association's Central Region.

More than 100 teachers are expected to stay through Saturday to attend
professional classes.

The annual conference is made possible by a longtime partnership of Cal
Poly's College of Agriculture, the state Department of Education, the
Chancellor's Office of the California Community Colleges and the
California Agriculture Teachers Association.
