Cal Poly Guitar Ensemble, SLO Guitar Trio to Give Free Recital Dec. 5
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The Cal Poly Guitar Ensemble and the SLO Guitar Trio
will perform music by Bach, Beethoven, Haydn, Handel, Mozart and others
in a free recital at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Cal Poly.
The program, to be in Room 218 in the Davidson Music Center, will
include the guitar ensemble playing the St. Anthony Chorale by Haydn,
Adagio Sostenuto from the "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven, Fughetta by
Bach, and Fugue VII by Handel as well as compositions by Luis Milán,
Giulio Caccini and Johann Krieger.
The seven-member ensemble will be joined for this recital by a cellist
and a singer.
The SLO Guitar Trio will play "Mysterious Habitats" by Dusan
Bogdanovic, Preludio by Manuel Ponce, "Marchinha de Carnival" by
Celso Machado, "Retrato Brasileiro" by Baden Powell, "The Easy Winners"
by Scott Joplin, Prelude to Cello Suite No. 1 by Bach, "I Kiss Your
Hand, Madame" by Ralph Erwin, and "La Playa" by Jo Van Wetter.
The Cal Poly Guitar Ensemble explores the qualities of the classical
guitar through a comprehensive repertoire of ensemble music that
includes works from the Renaissance to contemporary avant-garde.
The Cal Poly Guitar Ensemble regularly appears at Cal Poly, and both
groups have performed at Cuesta College's Multicultural Day and at the
college's La Guitarra California Guitar Festival 2001.
SLO Guitar Trio members Tom Hickok, Eric Gluckman and Matt Fabry met
while
participating in the Cal Poly Guitar Ensemble. They formed the trio in
the summer of 2000 to continue their interest in ensemble guitar
performance.
