SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Mail delayed by recent anthrax scares won't affect Cal Poly's Nov. 30 application deadline, the university's director of admissions said this week.
Prospective students applying to Cal Poly, who might have heard that application procedures at some universities have been slowed by fears of anthrax in the mail, should know that Cal Poly's application process is on schedule, Executive Director of Admissions and Recruitment James Maraviglia said. The university's process is part of the California State University's CSUMentor system, which is fully online and doesn't depend on the U.S. Mail.
Cal Poly requires Internet application except in unusual circumstances, Maraviglia said, and he expects all of this year's applicants to file online. He said he also expects a record number of applicants and encourages anyone considering Cal Poly not to wait until the last minute to apply.
Cal Poly is among the most selective universities in the nation. Last year 23,000 students applied for 4,600 new undergraduate openings. The number of applicants has more than doubled since Cal Poly began introducing online application in 1993.
For more information or to apply, students should go to www.csumentor.edu or www.calpoly.edu/_admiss/ or call the Cal Poly Admissions and Recruitment office at (805) 756-2311.
