Cal Poly deans, department heads and managers have been notified that
the university has enacted a hiring freeze, effective immediately, on
all staff and other non-faculty positions.
The hiring freeze is due to the state revenue shortfall this year, as
well as the economic outlook for the state budget in the 2002-2003
fiscal year.
Any positions involving campus safety, the delivery of essential
university services, or critical instructional programs may qualify for
an exemption from the hiring freeze. But the hiring freeze means all
managers must gain approval for such an exemption from their vice
president.
For information about the hiring freeze, contact Barbara Melvin,
interim director of Human Resources, at 756-6564. For information about
the state budget and how it may affect Cal Poly, contact Frank Lebens,
vice president for administration and finance, at 756-2171.
For any other assistance, please contact the Public Affairs office at
756-1511.
