Cal Poly Choirs to Perform Christmas Celebration Dec. 8
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The Cal Poly Choirs will ring in the holidays Dec. 8 with their annual seasonal concert, A Christmas Celebration," at 8 p.m. in Harman Hall in the Christopher Cohan Center.
The concert will feature performances by PolyPhonics, the university's 34-member mixed choir; The University Singers, Cal Poly's largest mixed choir; Cal Poly Vocal Jazz; and the universitys barbershop quartets, Here Comes Treble and Grand Avenue. The choirs will be accompanied by Music Department members Susan Azaret Davies and Catherine Harvey.
In addition to singing familiar compositions from the Renaissance and newly composed works, the choirs will invite the audience to participate in a carol sing-along.
The featured work, "O Magnum Mysterium" by Leo Nestor, is described as a moving piece for chorus, brass and percussion. For its performance, the Cal Poly Choirs will be joined by faculty members Clyde Quick on trumpet and Jane Swanson playing the French horn as well as students from the Cal Poly Wind Orchestra.
Faculty member Henry Spiller will be featured on the harp with The University Singers. Tickets are $7 to $15 and can be bought at the Performing Arts Ticket Office 10 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays. To order by phone, call SLO-ARTS (756-2787); to order by fax, dial 756-6088.
