Cal Poly Sorority Wins Top National Honor
SAN LUIS OBISPO – A relatively new member of Cal Poly’s Greek system, Delta Delta Delta (Tri Delta), was awarded the national sorority’s House of the Year award at its recent convention in Chicago.
The honor is especially significant as it is awarded every two years, and Cal Poly’s Epsilon Epsilon chapter is only three years old. The new house was opened only a year ago to host chapter events and house members.
“We went from not having a house to becoming House of the Year in less than a year,” said Ashley Gambrell, chapter president. “The house has helped with recruitment and cohesiveness, and we’ve been able to participate in the community by hosting a block party as part of the Night with your Neighbor program.”
“The ladies in this chapter are really excited about being a new chapter and it’s really unique to be able to turn that excitement into such dramatic results so quickly,” said Harmony Quismundo-Newman, panhellenic advisor. Regional field representatives determine awards based on quarterly visits to each of the 182 national chapters.
The Cal Poly chapter was also recognized in its fundraising efforts for the sorority’s national charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, raising $18,679 in the second year of participation.
